The US attorney who secured the indictment of Raúl Castro resigns
Jason Reding Quiñones is leaving the US attorney's office for the Southern District of Florida effective Friday and without giving reasons; Attorney General Todd Blanche cited the indictment of Raúl Castro among his achievements.
Jason Reding Quiñones, US attorney for the Southern District of Florida, submitted his resignation effective Friday, NBC 6 Miami and CBS News reported. US Attorney General Todd Blanche thanked him on X for his work against violent crime, drug trafficking and transnational crime, «including the indictment of Raúl Castro».
Quiñones, a Miami native, was nominated for the post in February 2025 by President Donald Trump, when he was a state judge in Miami-Dade. He gave no reasons for leaving: on X he wrote that public service has been «the honor of my lifetime», according to NBC 6 Miami.
According to CBS News, his office also handled the so-called «grand conspiracy» investigation into whether intelligence officials from the Obama and Biden eras conspired to keep Trump out of office, a case with heavy grand jury activity and still no charges. The network adds that Quiñones had led the prosecution of Raúl Castro over the downing of two light aircraft 30 years ago.
