Cuba's purchases from the US top 1,000 million dollars in nine months

Between January and September 2026, the United States sold or donated 1,096.5 million dollars' worth of goods to Cuba, 91% more than in the same period of 2025, according to the U.S. Census Bureau as cited by 14ymedio and Cubanet.

U.S. exports to Cuba reached 1,096.5 million dollars between January and Sept. 30, 2026, up from 572.8 million in the same period a year earlier, according to the U.S. Census Bureau as cited by 14ymedio. Cubanet reports the same figure and specifies that it covers goods either sold or donated.

August and September set records since the agency began tracking these sales in 1992, at 202.5 million and 220 million dollars respectively, according to 14ymedio. In the opposite direction, U.S. imports from the island have barely reached 600,000 dollars since January.

Fuel accounts for much of the increase: petroleum products made up 30% of Cuba's total purchases so far this year and, in August alone, 37% of the exported value, according to 14ymedio. That month the United States shipped 562,000 barrels, according to the Energy Information Administration as cited by the same outlet.

Washington authorized the fuel sales in February on condition that the products go to Cuba's private sector, although the U.S. government itself has acknowledged that the regime diverts part of that fuel to the state sector, according to 14ymedio.
