Cuba's power utility forecasts a 1,966 MW shortfall at Tuesday's peak

The Unión Eléctrica expects 1,014 MW of available capacity against peak demand of 2,950 MW, according to the daily report published by Granma and Cubadebate. Monday's maximum shortfall reached 1,941 MW.

The Unión Eléctrica's report for Tuesday forecasts 1,014 MW of available capacity at peak demand against maximum demand of 2,950 MW, a deficit of 1,936 MW. If those conditions hold, the forecast service shortfall is 1,966 MW. For the midday period it estimates a 1,450 MW shortfall.

On Monday the service was cut for lack of generating capacity for all 24 hours, including the entire pre-dawn period. The maximum shortfall was 1,941 MW at 19:40, above plan: the report attributes that to the CMC 4 unit failing to come online and to demand running higher than forecast. At 06:00 on Tuesday available capacity was 954 MW against demand of 2,120 MW, with 1,187 MW cut.

Out of service with faults are unit 5 at the Mariel plant, unit 1 at Santa Cruz, unit 2 at Felton and units 3 and 6 at Renté. Under maintenance are unit 3 at Santa Cruz, unit 5 at Nuevitas and unit 5 at Renté. Renté 6 is expected online for the peak, with 60 MW.

Photovoltaic solar parks supplied 4,068 MWh, with 633 MW as the maximum power delivered during the midday period, according to the same report.
