Cuba's grid operator forecasts a 1,920 MW shortfall at Wednesday's peak
The Unión Eléctrica expects a 1,920 MW shortfall at peak demand on November 4, with four thermal power units broken down and three under maintenance, according to its daily report published by Cubadebate.
The Unión Eléctrica (UNE), Cuba's state grid operator, expects 960 MW of available capacity at Wednesday's peak against maximum demand of 2,850 MW, leaving a deficit of 1,890 MW. If those conditions hold, the report forecasts a 1,920 MW shortfall at that hour.
At 06:00 the national grid had 960 MW available against demand of 2,180 MW, with 1,220 MW of service cut. For midday, the UNE estimates a shortfall of 1,500 MW.
The report lists as broken down unit 5 of the Mariel thermal plant, unit 1 at Santa Cruz, unit 2 at Felton and unit 3 at Renté. Under maintenance are unit 3 at Santa Cruz, unit 5 at Nuevitas and unit 5 at Renté.
The previous day service was cut for all 24 hours because of a capacity deficit, with a maximum shortfall of 1,905 MW at 19:30. Solar photovoltaic parks supplied 2,341 MWh, with 364 MW as the highest output delivered at midday.
