US Embassy in Havana keeps immigrant visas running, still no tourist appointments

The mission is processing all immigrant visa categories and limited non-immigrant services, but regular tourist and business appointments remain suspended and B1/B2 visas require a bond of up to $20,000, according to its own website as reported by Martí Noticias.

The United States Embassy in Havana is still processing immigrant visa applications and some consular services, but the migration restrictions in force continue to limit the issuing of certain visas to Cuban citizens, according to the mission's own information as reported by Martí Noticias.

Regular appointments for tourist and business visas remain suspended. The restrictions stemming from the presidential proclamations in force also affect student, exchange and some immigrant visa categories. The Embassy notes that there are exceptions for permanent residents, people with dual nationality and cases of national or diplomatic interest.

Cuban citizens who meet the requirements for a B1/B2 non-immigrant visa must post a bond of up to 20,000 dollars before the visa is issued, regardless of where they apply. The consular officer informs applicants at the interview whether they meet the requirements and gives instructions for payment, according to the notice published on the Embassy's website.

The mission maintains limited services for temporary work visas, specific exchange programmes, medical emergencies and services for US citizens, and assists permanent residents who need to return after losing their documents or having them expire. It does not handle applications under the Cuban Family Reunification Parole Program and does not replace permanent residence cards, which are the responsibility of Citizenship and Immigration Services. It also warns that submitting documents and attending the interview does not guarantee approval.
