Granma reports a new MRI scanner at Cuba's neuroscience centre
The official daily says a three-tesla magnetic resonance scanner has been installed at the Cuban Neuroscience Centre, as part of a BioCubaFarma project with the UNDP and funding from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.
A three-tesla magnetic resonance scanner has been installed at the Cuban Neuroscience Centre as part of the PROBIOCUBA project, a collaboration between BioCubaFarma and the United Nations Development Programme with financial support from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, the official daily Granma reported.
The head of the centre's magnetic resonance department, Evelio González Dalmau, quoted by Granma, said the equipment is essential for clinical trials and for diagnosing tumours, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's. The same paper says at least four BioCubaFarma clinical trials could benefit, and that PROBIOCUBA has supplied more than 100 pieces of specialised equipment to ten centres in the biopharmaceutical industry.
The information comes from state media, which in turn cites the UN programme's own website; no independent outlet has verified it, and the report does not say when the scanner will start seeing patients or how scans will be allocated.
