Energy minister says Cuba «does not have and will not have fuel in the short term»

Vicente de la O Levy acknowledged it on 23 October in Holguín, according to América TeVé, without setting a date for restoring supplies. Diario de Cuba and Cubanet reported the same warning from the energy and mines minister.

«The country does not have and will not have fuel in the short term», the energy and mines minister warned, in remarks reported by Diario de Cuba and translated by Yamacoa. Cubanet reported that same acknowledgment and added that the minister called for reorganizing the generator sets and making use of local resources.

América TeVé places the remarks on 23 October in the province of Holguín and specifies that the minister, Vicente de la O Levy, announced no specific dates for restoring supplies. According to that outlet, Holguín had less than 30% of the electricity it needs, about 70 megawatts of the 240 required in July 2026, and some generator units have gone between two and three years without producing electricity.

The measures the minister cited, according to the same outlet, are creating workshops through public-private agreements, diversifying generation with solar, hydroelectric, wind and biomass power, concentrating the generator sets in fewer facilities and stepping up security against theft at the solar parks.
