The dollar closes at 928 pesos and the euro hits 1,000 in CiberCuba's index

The informal-market index compiled by CiberCuba put the dollar at 928 Cuban pesos and the euro at 1,000 on Thursday, Nov. 5, their highest levels in the past 30 days.

The dollar ended Thursday at 928 Cuban pesos (CUP), 13 more than the previous day, and the euro at 1,000 CUP, according to CiberCuba's exchange-rate index, built from automated analysis of currency buy-and-sell posts in Telegram and Facebook groups.

Over one week the dollar rose 60 pesos from 868 CUP seven days earlier, a 6.9% gain, and the euro added 49.5 pesos from 950 CUP, a 5.2% rise, according to CiberCuba. The euro remains the most expensive currency on the parallel market, 72 pesos above the dollar. The MLC, which has no physical form, was quoted at an indicative 653 CUP that the outlet itself asks readers to treat with caution because of thin trading volume.

The Central Bank of Cuba's official rate for the so-called Segment III stood that same day at 788 CUP per dollar and 885 per euro, according to CiberCuba, leaving a gap of more than 140 pesos with the informal dollar rate and about 115 pesos in the case of the euro.
