Dollar closes at 834 pesos on the informal market, according to CiberCuba's index

CiberCuba's index put the dollar at an average of 834 pesos on Saturday, October 24, four more than the previous session, and the euro at 925 pesos, its highest level in 30 days. The official Segment III rate remains at 743 pesos per dollar.

The informal currency market closed Saturday, October 24, with the dollar at an average of 834 Cuban pesos, four more than in the previous session, when it closed at 830, according to CiberCuba's index. The euro climbed to 925 pesos, 6.5 more than the day before, and the MLC, the freely convertible currency, stood at around 585 pesos, a figure the outlet itself warns should be taken as indicative only, given the small volume of transactions behind it.

Over the week, the dollar has gained 29 pesos from the 805 of seven days ago, a rise of 3.6%. The euro gained 21.5 pesos from the 904 of the previous week and is establishing itself as the most expensive currency on the parallel market, 91 pesos above the dollar. The MLC, by contrast, has fallen 66.5 pesos from the 652 of a week ago.

Over the past month the dollar has climbed from 728 pesos, although CiberCuba notes that part of that variation may reflect adjustments to the methodology of its index and not market movement alone. The index is built from automated analysis of currency buy and sell posts in Telegram and Facebook groups, discarding atypical offers and weighting each transaction by its age.

The Central Bank of Cuba's official exchange rate in Segment III remains at 743 pesos per dollar and 832 per euro, far below the values that prevail in everyday practice. The gap exceeds 90 pesos in the case of the dollar and comes close to 93 in the case of the euro.
