Diario de Cuba reports 1,400 kits for vulnerable people in Cienfuegos, after seven flights in October; Cáritas Cuba estimates that some 10,200 families in the diocese could receive the aid, according to Cubanet.
The United States sent Cuba another 1,400 food and hygiene kits to be distributed among vulnerable people in Cienfuegos, according to Diario de Cuba. It is the first shipment of November, after seven flights in October.
In the municipality of Cruces, Cáritas Cuba estimates that some 10,200 families in the diocese could receive assistance from the program, according to Cubanet.
The distribution is financed by a 100 million dollar fund approved in May 2026 by Donald Trump's administration. Of that amount, 60 million is channeled through the Cuban Catholic Church, Catholic Relief Services and Cáritas Cuba, under a mechanism that delivers supplies to recipients through parishes, without the involvement of state structures. The program's first shipment arrived in Havana on July 21.
The US chargé d'affaires in Cuba, Mike Hammer, also met Pablo Ruiz Hiebra, the new resident coordinator of the United Nations system on the island, to discuss the country's situation and humanitarian aid efforts, the US Embassy said. Ruiz Hiebra, a Spanish national, took up the post on October 1.
