14ymedio: family of a Cuban deported to Mexico and killed in Cancún seeks to repatriate the body

Cuban national Ángel Corona, 33, was shot dead on October 30 in Cancún, according to 14ymedio. He was one of more than 6,000 people deported to Mexico by Donald Trump's administration. His body is being kept refrigerated while the family completes the paperwork to take his remains to Cuba: "it costs an enormous amount of money", a source who asked not to be named told the outlet, in remarks translated by Yamacoa.
Authorities told the family the body had to be claimed to prevent burial in a common grave, and ruled out cremation because Mexico treats it as a homicide case. A sister of the dead man and another relative traveled to Cancún for the paperwork. The Quintana Roo attorney general's office has given no details of the case and has not said whether it opened an investigation.
The case follows that of another Cuban, identified by the authorities as Juan "N", shot dead in early October by two people on a motorcycle, with no known progress. The United States has not published any deportation agreement with Mexico, which repeatedly denies having signed one, although Washington has such agreements with more than 30 countries.
